About Health Standards Aotearoa NZ (HSANZ)

Health Standards Aotearoa NZ (HSANZ) is a national body responsible for the design, development, and continuous review of health service standards across Aotearoa. Our purpose is to enhance equity, quality, and safety in the delivery of health services through a cohesive and forward-looking standards framework that reflects the unique needs of Aotearoa’s people.

We are committed to ensuring that all standards are grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, responsive to the aspirations of Māori, inclusive of Pacific and other diverse communities, and aligned with global best practices in health care.

HSANZ started with a vision to transform the healthcare system by designing and developing innovative health service standards. With over three decades of experience in shaping policy, quality frameworks, and system-wide healthcare reforms, our team is committed to making a positive impact on the health sector. We have a track record of success in working with key clients and publishing standards that have improved the quality and safety of healthcare services in New Zealand.

David Waters and Cathy Cummings established HSANZ in 2024.  Both David and Cathy have extensive experience developing health care related standards over several decades, both having worked with Standards New Zealand in a variety of project management roles and expert committee functions.
